Memoir writing forewarnings!

If you're thinking of writing a memoir, be forewarned: some of what comes back may be painful.
-Writing a memoir is like preparing yourself to go to confession.
-You may need to be honest. You can't write an effective memoir, if you're worried about family & friends.
-Readers will recognize your courage & respect you for it.
-Honesty is not only a gift to other people--it's a gift to yourself and may even be cathartic.

Otherwise, you can write a story & list it as "inspired by true events", or defer to writing fiction.
